Last Will and Testament of Silas Bowerman

I Silus Bowerman of Pawlings Town in the County of Dutchess and

State of New York being in sound mind and Memory do think fit

to make a distribution of my outward Estate by will in the

following manner Viz:  First of all it is my will that all my

debts and funeral charges be paid by my three sons Equally namely

Meltiah Sylas and Macy Bowerman.  Item I give and bequeath to my

Daughter Jane Braley five Shillings over and above what she has already

had out of my estate.  Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hannah

Wing five Shillings over and above what she has already had out of my

estate.  Item I give and bequeath to my grand daughters Mary and Hannah

Bowerman one feather bed and beding for said bed to

be equally divided between them if either of them should die

before she come of Lawful age then her part is to return to her mother.

Item  I give and bequeath to my daughters Anna Mary Lydia Phebe and

Sarah Bowerman each of them five pounds in money and all

my household goods except what is already given away to be

equally divided between them and also I give them a privelidge

in my house for a home to live in as long as they remain un-

married. if either of my five last mentioned daughters should

die without issue or under age then her part is to be equally

divided between the surviving last mentioned five and the

money ^that I gave them is to be paid in two years after my death.

Item  I give and bequeath to my three sons, Meltiah, Sylas and

Masa Bowerman all my lands and buildings and all the

rest of my estate of all sorts except what is above given away to

be equally divided between them provided they pay all the

above legacies equally. all that I have given to my sons is to them

their heirs and assigns forever.  Item  I do hereby nominate con:

stitute and appoint  my well beloved Son Sylas Bowerman

and my friend Edward Shove my only lawful executors

to this my last will and testament making void all former gifts

or wills whatsoever. in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand

and seal this twenty ninth day of the fifth month one thousand

seven hundred and ninety seven 1797 - Silas Bowerman [his seal]

to be his last will and testament in the presence of Ruth Shove

Edward Shove Jur Jonathan Shove. Dutchess County. Be it re:

membered that on the Seventh day of October one thousand eight hun

dred and three personally appeared before me Gilbert Livingston

Surrogate of the Said County Edward Shove Junior of the Town

of Pawling in Said County farmer who on his affirmation declared

that he did See Silas Bowerman Sign and Seal the annexed

written instrument purporting to be the will of the said

Silas Bowerman bearing date the twenty ninth day of the fifth

month one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven and heard

him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and tes:

tament & that at the time thereof he the said Silas Bowerman

was of sound dispsing mind and memory to the best of the

Knowledge and belief of him the affirmant & and that Ruth

Shove, Jonathan Shove and the affirmant severally subscribed

the said Will as Witnesses thereto in the testators presence. Gilbert

Livingston [his seal].  The People of the State of New York by the grace of

God free and independent.  To all to whom these presents shall

come or may concern send greeting.  Know ye that at Poughkeepsie

in Dutchess County on the seventh day of October in the

year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three

before Gilbert Livingston Esquire Surrogate of our said County the

last Will and Testament of Silas Bowerman deceased (a copy where_

_of is hereunto annexed) was proved and is now approved and all_

_owed of by us and the said deceased having whilst he lived and

at the time of his death Goods Chattels or Credits within this

State by means  whereof the proveing and registering the said

will and the granting administration of all and singular

the said Goods Chattels and Credits and also the auditing

allowing and final discharging the acount thereof doth belong

unto us.  the administration of all and singular the goods

Chattels and Credits of the said deceased, and any____ con:

cerning his will is granted unto Edward Shove one of the Exe:

:cutors in the said Will named he first being duly affirmed

well and faithfully to administer the same. and to make and

exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said

Goods, Chattels and Credits, and also to render a Just and true account

thereof when thereunto required.  In Testimony whereof we have

caused the seal of office of our said Surrogate to be hereunto af:

:fixed - Witness Gilbert Livingston Esquire Surrogate of the said

County at Poughkeepsie the seventeenth day of October in the year

of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three and of

our Independence the twenty eighth. [signed]  Gilbert Livingston
