Phinney is head of household on the census of 1 June 1840 at Brewster, Barnstable Co., MA, USA. (In the 1840 Census of Brewster, MA., Elisha A. Phinney is recorded as being the head of household, living with a female, both being between 20 and 30 years of age. This would undoubtedly be his wife, Sally. No children were shown as being resident).² He died on 10 October 1846 in at Sea, Brewster, Barnstable Co., MA, USA. He has also been reported to have died 1 February 1848 Brewster, Barnstable Co., MA, USA, however, this date is in error  [See Research Note].³

     Research Note:  Finney, Pg. 103, records the death date of Elisha A. Phinney as "d. Feb. 1, 1848, in Brewster, Mass." Upon examination of the Vital Records of Brewster, MA., Pgs. 231-31, it is found that this is the death date of his third son, Elisha A. Phinney, Jr., who died in Brewster of "Inflammation of Lungs" at the age of 11m, 20d. This is a positive identification and the data/sources may be found at person # 3092. It is known that Elisha Sr., died c. this time, but the death is not recorded in the Brewster VR.
