• Indenture*: On 4 March 1696/97, Edmund Freeman recieved a love and affection Indenture from Edmund Freeman , Jr. who deeded "all that messuage or Tenniment on which the sd. Edmond Freeman Sr. now dwelleth with all the upland meadow Ground marsh and all other lands of what sort or kinds soever which he hath . . . in the township of Sandwich… with his dwelling House barne and orchards." He reserved for himself the right of use of the dwelling house, barn and old orchard during his natural life and "one halfe part of all the profits and gains whatsoever which shall yearly be made . . . and agreed to pay half of the taxes on the property." Margaret Freeman did not quitclaim on the deed.
       At a later date, Edmund Freeman, Sr. required clarification of his action and "was informed that he had given away to his son all that he had, leaving nothing to dispose to his daughters," nor for his own use. After his death, his brother John Freeman, Esq. gave testimony about looking into the matter. John also related that Edmund Sr. had complained about a loan of six pounds made to his son Edmund which the son refused to repay on demand. When questioned, the son acknowledged the loan but maintained the money had been repaid [Tag 40:103-110].⁵

Savage's Genealogical Dictionary, in 1860, and Freeman's History of Cape Cod both give the year as 1659, and it seems unlikely that Rachel was born only eleven months after her sister Margaret, as the date in the Ellis copy, "1653" would have it.^1,2

• Will Transcription*: The will of George dated 9 April 1601 reads as follows:
  The parents of George Cosford are unknown. Although the will of a John Cosford of the nearby parish of Ashby St. Ledgers mentions a son named George, [Sherman, supra note 1 pp. 159-60] that will was made in 1533; if the son George is father-in-law of the Pilgrim Thomas Rogers, he is considerably older than one might have anticipated.

• Birth*: Elizabeth Rogers was born on 15 January 1575 in Watford, Northamptonshire, England, daughter of William Rogers and Eleanor (?), Elizabeth was named in her father's will (see #3035 for a transcription). In the parish of Watford, co. Northampton, searches in the register, as transcribed by W. Watts, and with specific entries verified from the original registers by (Mrs.) M. A. Powell of the Northamptonshire Records Office, revealed the following data:
