Thomas Hatch (M)
b. circa 1596, #4540

Thomas Hatch was born circa 1596 in England [based on est. date of marriage].1

Research Note:  As noted by Elizabeth French in 1916 "Much confusion has arisen and numerous errors have appeared in various printed works regarding two settlers in Plymouth Colony named Thomas Hatch" [NEHGR 70:256]. There was a Thomas Hatch of Scituate, and another of Yarmouth and Barnstable. Which one had earlier been at Dorchester? French states correctly that the Dorchester man moved to Yarmouth and then Barnstable, and the Scituate Thomas Hatch came straight from England. This may be concluded from the fact that Thomas Hatch of Scituate had a daughter baptized at Tenterden, Kent, in 1636 [NEHGR 70:257], while the other Thomas Hatch was already in Dorchester by 1633. (For excellent accounts of the Hatch family of Scituate see NEHGR 70:245-60 and Joseph Neal Anc 111-22.) [SOURCE: GMB 875-876].

Thomas married Grace (?) circa 1621 at England.2 He migrated from Unknown, Prob. England to Dorchester, MA, New England, in 1633.1
Thomas Hatch was admitted to the Dorchester Church before 14 May 1634.3
Thomas Hatch was on a list of freemen dated 14 May 1634 in Dorchester, MA, New England.4,5
Thomas Hatch and John Phillips received a Land Grant for two acres of land between the ends of the great lots and the acreage granted to Alexander Miller "provided they leave a sufficient highway at their great lots" on 17 April 1635 at Dorchester, MA, New England.
On March 1637/38, In the division of the Neck and other Dorchester lands, Thomas Hatch had three acres, one quarter and six rods in the neck and the same amount in the other lands. In the map of Dorchester meadows beyond the Naponset river, "T. Hach" had two acres in lot number 77 at Dorchester, MA, New England.6
Thomas Hatch removed to Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA in 1639 from Dorchester, MA.1
Thomas Hatch took the oath of fidelity in 1639 at Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA, New England.7,8
Thomas Hatch was proposed for freemen 7 January 1638/39 in Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA, New England, (Apparently never took up his freedom in Plymouth Colony; not in 1657 oath of fidelity list or 1658 list of freemen for Barnstable.).9
Thomas Hatch sold "one great lot with a house on that sixteen acres within and without pale, also six acres of meadow, four on this side and two acres on the other side Neponset, and all his commons except that in the neck" to John Phillips on 31 October 1639 at Dorchester, MA, New England.10
Thomas Hatch removed to Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA before 1 June 1641 from Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA.1
Thomas Hatch was propounded as a freemen dated 1 June 1641 in Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, New England.11
Thomas appeared on a list of those able to bear arms in 1643 in Plymouth Colony and was of Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, New England.12,13
On 15 May 1648, In an agreement regarding his landholding in Yarmouth, Anthony Thatcher "demands 8 acres of upland in West Field, which he bought of Thomas Hatch" in Yarmouth, Barnstable Co., MA, New England.14
The estate inventory of Thomas Hatch taken 27 May 1661, totalled £14 18s., with no real estate included; "Grace Hatch late wife of the abovesaid Thomas Hatch deceased" deposed to the inventory which was presented before Thomas Hinckley, Assistant on 27 June 1661 at Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, New England.15,16 His estate was probated on 3 March 1662/63 at Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, New England, by Jonathan Hatch, his son, and Lydia Taylor, his daughter.17,18
