Joshua Swift Bowerman was born on 25 January 1829. He was the son of Barnabas Bowerman and Virtue Russell Swift.
Joshua Swift, age 33, married Mary T. Buffum, age 24, daughter of George R. Buffum and Lydia H. Taber, on 22 May 1862 at Vassalboro, Kennebec Co., ME, USA, ; BFH Pg. 107, #66, states that Mary married Joshua's brother, Daniel, but offers no source for her data. Vassalboro, ME, Friend's records show this marriage and records the names of both bride and grooms parents.
Addendum: Recent evidence suggests that Mary may have indeed married Joshua's brother, Daniel, after Joshua's death in 1872. This is evidenced by handwritten letters from Mary's daughter, "Addie," which are found in the archives at the West Falmouth library in MA. I will be obtaining copies of these letters and attempting to gather the marriage and death records if they exist.1
