John Wing was born on 1 March 1689 in Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, New England.1,2 He was the son of John Wing and Martha Spooner.2 He and Experience Gifford were Quaker, at the time of the marriage (recorded Sandwich MM).3

Research Note: "John Wing's home, the ancestral home of numerous Wing descendants, was on Great Neck, but later generations lived farther north in Marion, in the vicinity where today stands the Methodist Church. A large territory in this region was once occupied by Wing families. John Wing was a surveyor, and about 1700 he wrote a book on surveying, which showed the methods then used. For many years persons by the name of Wing held the office of town clerk.
John Wing, with Savory Clifton who lived in the same vicinity, and a few others, started the Quaker movement in Rochester. John Wing and very many of his descendants lie buried in the old Friends' burying-ground opposite the Methodist church.
The graves of thes early settlers are mostly unmarked, but on a small tablet in the enclosure one may read:
'Within this inclosure lie the Remains of 326 Friends: 200 x 67 Ft.6' "

Joseph Gifford was born circa 1729 in Falmouth, Barnstable Co., MA, New England, [No record of birth has been located for Joseph, to date. On 19 May 1742, Ebenezer Hatch, Jr., was appointed "as guardian unto Joseph Gifford, a minor aged about 14 years, son to William Gifford, Late of Falmouth Deceased." This could only refer to a son of this William Gifford, as Willliam3 Gifford (William2-1) was living at this time.1 He was the son of William Gifford , Jr. and Experience Bowerman.
