Latest Additions/Changes
25 Aug 2007 - The website is heading into
some new updates, which have been long needed, to include one VERY major
addition:
1 May 2005 - Besides our mailing list get black
listed by Comcast... sigh... we are back and at it once again! 21 Apr 2005 - Added a letter Written 3 Nov 1843, by Abial and Lucy (Bryant) Bowerman, to their parents. This one had a few issues with the transcription, but I think it's pretty much all there; work continues on the database 19 Apr 2005 - added a letter Written 21 10 1839, by Benjamin Bow[er]man of St. Albans, ME, to his brother Abial Bowerman, then of Milton, MA., discussing a farm he thought Abial might be interested in buying; Added Deed - Jonathan Bowerman, grantor, and Cornelius Bowerman, grantee, both of Hallowell; 11 acres in Lot Number 11, Second Concession of the Military Tract, Hallowell - 4 Feb 1831 18 Apr 2005 - Spent some time restructuring the website today. Found several areas that needed correction. Currently adding some of the letters from Maine, so be patient while I verify the transcriptions. I will post here as I get them added; Added a letter Dated 19 Feb 1837, To Miss Ruth Bryant, of Boston [written by her sister Phebe (Bryant) Richmond] 17 Apr 2005 - Along with many database updates, I have added a scanned photocopy of the ORIGINAL deed of Daniel Bowerman, Yeoman, to Prince G. Bowerman, Yeoman, for 1-1/4 acres of land "laying in falmouth between the great Sippeawiset marsh and the bay..." for "twenty five Dollars." ; I am also starting a new section on the site called "Letters from/to Maine"... This will contain a large number of original letters sent between Bowerman family members that removed from Falmouth into the Fairfield, ME, area. This is incredible reading everyone - if you want a true taste of life back then, this is the place to watch. I will be adding them over the next few days as time allows. We also have a large number of new photographs that will be getting added. I am currently working on the Maine branches of the Bowerman/Bowman family. If you have any data that will assist in this, please contact me! 25 May 2004 - Along with several database updates, I have also added a scanned image of a survey done of the Ancient Friends Cemetery in West Falmouth. I have no idea of the source for this document, other than it was found in West Falmouth originally. 30 Apr 2004
- Wow, where do I begin? The DNA project has met with fantastic results
and we can now firmly establish Ichabod Bowerman of Dutchess County, NY., as not
only a descendent of the Barnstable County Bowerman family, we can show with
approximately a 95% confidence that he was the son of Thomas Bowerman (3)!!!!!
The mystery has finally been broken! We are now undertaking research on
other lines of the family, as well as trying to contact other Bowerman families
in England in the hopes of finally tracking down Thomas's origins; Several
updates have been made to the database since my last update here. I am
slowly migrating more records and some of the early photo's are being attached to
the individual "person pages" in the database.; Today added high resolution
photographs of the
Joseph Hatch Bowman Family Bible (c. 1883). These photos are of the
original bible, which I had the extreme pleasure of holding in my hands today. 10 Mar 2004 - Added a "National Copy Book" in which are 18 pages of poems and thoughts written by Rachel Jane "Cronk" 9 Mar 2004 - more yet for the Holding Area - this time in the form of an Indenture of Lease, between Stephen Cronkhite and John. G. Clark, dated 29 May 1876; added the 1851 Grant of Probate for the will of Peter Cronkhite; 8 Mar 2004 - The "holding cell" has been added to, in the form of three letters written between 1838 and 1851, by Samuel Hughes. These are worth reading folks - if nothing else, but to get a "sense" of how our ancestors thought and lived; Also added a copy of the will of Peter Cronkhite - 1851; Estate Inventory (undated document) of Rachel Cronkhite; Quit Claim Deed [original]; Rachel Cronkhite to Stephen & Peter Freeman Cronkhite, both parties of Hallowell, dated 4 Nov 1871; Quaker Marriage Certificate (from Original) of Samuel Charles Saylor and Rachel Jane Cronkhite, d. of Rachel and Peter Chronkite, dated 27 Sep 1871; 6 Mar 2004 - In light of requests for more information on the Cronkhite family of New York and Ontario, Canada, I have obtained photocopies of the original documents held by the Ontario Archives in the Cronkhite Fonds. These are being placed in a temporary area so that researchers can gain access to them. I will be moving them in time, to their proper places. 3 Mar 2004 - Added several new pages of transcribed colonial documents that had an effect on early New England. Many more are forthcoming and will be listed in order of date. 25 Feb 2004 - I have added a page that begins to list some of the common "myths" regarding the Bowerman Family. Each one is discussed in the "family tree" pages of the website, but are provided as a quick reference. 12 Feb 2004 - I have a full copy of the typewritten manuscript written by A.C. Bowerman. Let me know if anyone needs references, or a good copy. 02 Feb 2004 - Added a page of Source Citation examples that should be used when submitting data to this website for inclusion! 26 Jan 2004 - A couple of new items in the works. First, the new Fiche Reader/Printer has arrived and with it, a few Fiche of old records. I have started ordering films of ORIGINAL town records. Secondly, the ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT of Merton Yarwood Williams has been located and is being sent to me. This includes duplicate copies of the ORIGINAL Photographs he had with his manuscript. I will be removing the transcription and scanning the document into the website, along with scans of the Photos. Keep Watch!! 22 Jan 2004 - I'll bet you all thought I have been sleeping, huh? I have been diligently working on updating and getting some new material ready for the site. It's another big jump for us in the world of records and "accurate" reporting. I will be adding some new references as well, to include some sample forms that we all use in everyday life. Keep watch for new things! 7 Jan 2004 - In and amongst the various database updates, I have added the Bowerman Family references from Milliken's 1911 "History of Ontario County, N.Y." as a new reference for Silas4 Bowerman enthusiasts! 22 Dec 2003 - HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!! A couple of folks have written and asked why I have people in place without sources. I am hand entering all of this data, from a combination of about 6 databases. Often, I will add the names as "placeholders" and although the "source" data is not included, it means that those lines are being worked on. Keep checking back on a daily basis because I work on this, adding new material, every single day. If you need sources for any of this material, I can help you, privately, via email. Send a query to rlahti@hawkshome.net 17 Dec 2003 - I apologize for the problems with links today - the site was hacked as part of a "hacking contest" that is currently happening. If you find any pages that just do not look right, please let me know via email immediately so I can repair it. I am going through it all now attempting to find what all was damaged. 16 Dec 2003 - Some folks have been asking about "Quaker Dating" so I have put up a page sent by Lon Bowerman as a reference (Thanks Lon!) 12 Dec 2003 - Added a map dated 1812 - "Hallowell Land Holdings (Military Concessions) of Henry Young and Family" [These were the lands obtained by Thomas5 Bowerman - being described as "Lot 1, Concession 1, Military Tract, Township Hallowell...(Ontario, Canada)" - Courtesy of Doug Norman]; 11 Dec 2003 - Added Three pages of Ontario, Canada Marriage records, as extracted from the Ontario Marriage Registers, 3 volumes, dating 1858 - 1899. This collection is strictly "Bowerman" references at this time, but I can add collateral families on request. 10 Dec 2003 - Added a few more certificates and added a little more detail to Thomas2 , his wife Mary, and her father, Robert Harper; I will be making some minor changes to the exhibits over the next few days, so check back if one is missing for a bit. They will only be down for a few minutes each. 5 Dec 2003 - Several new additions to the database have been added, to include a previously unrecorded daughter of Seth and Mary (Burges?) Bowerman, Deborah. This new line and sources [images will be added as available] are courtesy of fellow researcher Mary Osborne. Thank you Mary!; Also have added the Sandwich VR Quaker record extracts from the Sandwich MM back to the site. 25 Nov 2003 - Completed the addition of some new Linked Charts (One Descendant Chart for Thomas Bowerman and a sample pedigree based on my personal lineage. If you wish your family pedigree listed, just email me!) 10 Nov 2003 - The cemetery Database has been updated with over 19,200 records, with samplings from all Barnstable County Cemeteries. We will be updating this on a daily basis, until we complete the database (about 25,000 listings estimated for Barnstable County alone.) I have also incorporated a better "Soundex" algorithm for the database. 3 Nov 2003 - Began adding material to the new "Records Database" area of the site. This first inclusion begins with some cemetery records from Barnstable County and will eventually be including such things as published vital records, etc. This is a long term project, but the added capability of being able to use "soundex" searches on the site makes it worthwhile. I will be adding more every day, so check them out often! 29 Oct 2003 - Work continues on the database updates. If you have additions, corrections, or evidences, please send them along! Added a Timeline of Canadian History, submitted by Lon Bowerman - thank you! 19 Oct 2003 - Added a page of Land Record Terms in the reference area; 16 Oct 2003 - For all you Falmouth Cousins: Another Mayflower Line has been established tracing back to Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. I am currently working on getting the details entered into the database with the citations and documents. This has been a 3 day project so far, thus explaining my lack of new material. I will have it in place by this weekend. [UPDATE: This line has been added to the database. More sources and documents for this line are coming, but enough is there now to validate the line. To locate the data, simply search for the Hopkins Surname] 10 Oct 2003 - Reinstated the BGNet Mailing List for those that wish to subscribe. Simply follow this link to subscribe: BGNet Mailing List Subscription 9 Oct 2003 - Added Power of Attorney granted by Thomas Burman and Anthony Annible (and others) to manage the lands granted them in Namassakesett [In two parts] - 1669 (Digital Scan of photocopied Document); Deeds between the Indians and the Original Proprietors of Falmouth (Saconessett) - 1661 and 1662; as recorded in the Plymouth County Commissioners Office, in Plymouth, MA. 8 Oct 2003 - Thanks go out to Laurie Schmit for providing the death record of Millicent (Sneath) Bowerman [#1682]. This has allowed us to update her maiden name correctly. It has previously been listed as "Smith." Thanks again Laurie!! 7 Oct 2002 - After a years hiatus from the world of Genealogy, we are once again back online, with a complete revamp of the website. A lot of new research has been done and many new primary sources will s0on be made available here. I have chosen to move the old BowermanGenealogy.net site here, rather than keeping up with 4 websites as I used to do. Much of the old Hawkshome site has been updated with references and structuring from there. Please notify me should any errors be found as I get this rebuilt! 13 Sep 2002
